When you read word problems you have to visualize the story and answer the question. Sometimes it helps to draw pictures too.
Here are a couple of word problems. Both are asking you to find the fraction of a whole.

eating, chatting, eating, buying Christmas wreaths, playing games, and eating.
This
week in math, we are going to take a test on the fraction lessons we covered in
CC. I am attaching a paper test for you to print and review and/or complete.
Use your math notebook, the fraction blog lessons, your X chart, and any other resources
to make sure you know the material before taking the test.
In
CC last week, some students said they would like to take a paper/pencil test,
while others prefer to complete the problems on the whiteboard in Class
Connect. I am giving you the option to do what works best for you.
HERE ARE YOUR CHOICES:
Complete
the paper test, scan it and email it to me by Friday, 12/2/16.
Complete
the paper test and transfer all work and answers to whiteboard slides in
CC tomorrow.
Complete
the test in CC using whiteboard tools tomorrow.
This
test is worth 34 points in the gradebook. You will receive points for getting
the correct answer (+1), showing your work (+1), and simplifying when needed
(+1).
If
you choose to complete the paper test, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND MATH CC THIS
WEEK. Your completed test will count as attendance.

This week in math we are learning how to predict the outcome of a multiplication problem by looking at the factors. When fractions are involved it's easy to decide if the product will be greater than or less than the original number.
