Hoof Prints
By Kristin

Pure tranquility,
Nature’s calm,
Beast and human as one.

Balletic movement,
Effortless aids,
Piaffe and tempis,
Tempo and leg.

Muscles aching,
Sweat from the sky,
Thoughts rushing in.

Beautiful job, Kristin!

For Sandy Hook Elementary

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

What a sad day for our country.

Measuring the Universe

Here is a cool movie to show your students when learning about measurement, or even statistics!

Starting as an empty white room, Roman Ondak’s Measuring the Universe at Tate St. Ives has grown through the contribution of around 90,000 participants to a constellation of black marks.

For more information about Roman Ondák and Measuring the Universe, visit MoMA.

Online Presentation Programs

10 Comments

This week in Comp Lit, we are learning about presentation software like PowerPoint and Impress. If you are working on a class project, there are many interactive online programs like Prezi and Glogster... and they are free! Check out the presentations below. These autobiography book reports were created by my English students last year.

Epic Characters

The Pirate... The Magic Cow... The Ringmaster...

Sounds like an epic tale!

I found this postcard at Cabanon Press and thought it might come in handy.

When you look at these images, you just can't help thinking up
a great story.

If you were going to write an epic tale,
what three characters would you choose?
