I
hope you all had a nice long weekend. My parents came to visit, so we had fun
eating, chatting, eating, buying Christmas wreaths, playing games, and eating.
This
week in math, we are going to take a test on the fraction lessons we covered in
CC. I am attaching a paper test for you to print and review and/or complete.
Use your math notebook, the fraction blog lessons, your X chart, and any other resources
to make sure you know the material before taking the test.
In
CC last week, some students said they would like to take a paper/pencil test,
while others prefer to complete the problems on the whiteboard in Class
Connect. I am giving you the option to do what works best for you.
HERE ARE YOUR CHOICES:
Complete
the paper test, scan it and email it to me by Friday, 12/2/16.
Complete
the paper test and transfer all work and answers to whiteboard slides in
CC tomorrow.
Complete
the test in CC using whiteboard tools tomorrow.
This
test is worth 34 points in the gradebook. You will receive points for getting
the correct answer (+1), showing your work (+1), and simplifying when needed
(+1).
If
you choose to complete the paper test, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND MATH CC THIS
WEEK. Your completed test will count as attendance.
This is the coolest way to add and subtract fractions.
BOOM BOOM POW!
Confused? Watch this video (at least the first 4:44 minutes).
It's a quick way to solve fraction addition and subtraction problems with unlike denominators.
Here are the notebook pages for this week's lesson. Please make sure your notebook is up to date before next Tuesday's lesson. Notebook printables can be found in the CC recording and in your k-mail. Remember, you can click on any image to enlarge it.
If you were not at the live session, remember to
send me the Quick Check answers as soon as possible!
There is discipline in A
Soldier you can see it when he walks, There
is honor in A Soldier you hear it when he talks. There
is courage in A Soldier you can see it in his eyes, There
is loyalty in A Soldier that he will not compromise. There
is something in A Soldier that makes him stand apart, There
is strength in A Soldier that beats from his heart. A
Soldier isn't a title any man can be hired to do, A
Soldier is the soul of that man buried deep inside of you. A
Soldier's job isn't finished after an 8 hour day or a 40 hour week, A
Soldier is always A Soldier even while he sleeps. A
Soldier serves his country first and his life is left behind, A
Soldier has to sacrifice what comes first in a civilian's mind. If you
are civilian - I am saying this to you..... next
time you see A Soldier remember what they do. A
Soldier is the reason our land is 'Home of the free', A
Soldier is the one that is brave protecting you and me. If you
are A Soldier - I am saying this to you..... Thank God
for EVERY SOLDIER Thank God for what YOU do!
This week in math we are learning how to predict the outcome of a multiplication problem by looking at the factors. When fractions are involved it's easy to decide if the product will be greater than or less than the original number.
If you would like to watch a very helpful video about this concept, go to Learn Zillion and type the code below into the search box.
Code: LZ3401
Here is another look at my notebook page from this lesson. Check your work to make sure your answers are correct and your notebook is complete. You can click on the image to enlarge it.
So, now we are moving on to fractions. Last week we reviewed simplifying fractions. You will need that skill and everything you know about multiplication to multiply fractions this week.
Moving on...
What does it mean to multiply fractions?
One way to multiply fractions is to use the Standard Method that's been around for decades! You multiply across (numerator x numerator & denominator x denominator).
Here is a video that I find very helpful and I think that you will too.
Another way to multiply fractions is to use models.
This mini-lesson will help to explain the models method...
Whether you are a fraction expert or you need a little extra practice,
