If you choose to do the Book Reflection for your project, you will write a creative HAIKU about the novel Pippi Longstocking

What's a Haiku?

 -------------------------------------------------------------

This assignment is worth 100 points in the gradebook. The scoring guide is the same for both projects:

-------------------------------------------------------------

All illustrations should pop off the page. Sometimes it helps a project look "finished" when you use a fine tip black marker to outline the illustrations. Then, color in the whole image... background too!

Here is a sample of a student's illustration that is "neat and colorful"...

 -------------------------------------------------------------

When you are finished, send me a clear image of your final project. It must be clear, so I can read the information and admire the pictures!

You can scan it or take a picture of it. Then, kmail it, email it, or text it to Mrs. Sol! My contact information can be found here

Extra credit points if you also send me a picture of you holding your final project!

I am super-duper excited to see your projects!

Make Pippi proud!

Let's Talk about Theme

In class this week, we are learning about THEME.

The theme cannot always be found in writing.
You'll need to use your inferencing skills to discover what the author wants you to know.

Here are a few examples of common themes found in literature:

Think about the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Then ask yourself the questions below.

From your answers, can you come up with a theme or two?
What does the author want you to take away from the story?

Here are a few of the themes from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory:

Now that we are finished with Pippi Longstocking, we can apply our new knowledge about theme to what we know about the story. What do you think Astrid Lindgren wants you to learn from the story? What is the theme, or heart of the story?

In Class Connect today, students worked in groups to discuss Pippi and come up with themes from the story. Here are a few of the themes we decided on...

Your assignment is to complete a final project before April 1. More info on that to come!

Easy as Pi

Today, March 14, is Pi Day.

...and by Pi, I mean Pi (as in the math kind of Pi).

However, if you want to eat pie on Pi day, that's okay with me!

In fact, I think you should start the day with a pancake pie.

Have pot pie for lunch.

Order a pizza pie for dinner.

Then go straight for the chocolate cream pie.

But that's just me.

So, what is Pi?

Awesome!

Here are a few fun Pi Day resources:
