2-Digit Divisors

Hey!

We moved on to 2-digit divisors this week and you guys are doing great! Before next week's class, make sure your notebook is up to date and that you've taken the 5.NBT.6b Quick Check! If you were absent on Tuesday, k-mail your quick check to me. The printable copy was k-mailed to you.

Speaking of Quick Checks, I thought I'd show you a couple samples of what a "4 point" quiz looks like. Both are easy to read and complete. Click on the images below to enlarge.

Even if you get the answers wrong, you can get points for trying your best and remembering to write your name! If you don't write you name on your slide, I may think you were absent. Eek!

Here is a look at my notebook pages from Tuesday. If you click on the picture a bigger version will pop up. Feel free to copy down the information, if needed!

Sometimes it helps to have a good old fashioned multiplication table handy. You can use it for long division, finding area, fractions, and of course multiplication. I like this one because it's colorful and easy to use. If you think you might want to use one, you can print it out and glue it to the inside of your math notebook cover.

If you would like some extra help with division or you're in the mood for a new math game. Click on the links below!

Remember to k-mail me if you have questions or need help.

Next up... Geometry!

Haiku Review: Hollis Woods

This summer, I read a bazillion chapter books. My favorite genre is realistic fiction and I'm usually drawn to upper grade and middle school novels. I do read other genres, if recommended by students, my boys, and their friends.

There are so many fantastic books out there! I decided to write mini summaries of the books I've read and post them on this blog. Voila! The Haiku Review was born.

When  I finish a novel, I will post a photo (with props from the story), the book information, and a Haiku summary of the story. If you think it sounds interesting, find a copy at your local library. Then, let me know what you think!

NOTE: I will only post a book, if I think it's worth recommending. That means I give it a 4 or 5 stars.

Book Post #1 (drum roll please)...

Math: Extended Problems

At the end of each unit, you fill find an assignment called "Extended Problems."  This is usually an LC graded assignment. However, three of the Extended Problems will be sent in to me to grade. You can scan the assignment and k-mail it, e-mail it, or mail it to me.

Extended Problems will give students the opportunity to use the knowledge they learned throughout the unit, and in a more extensive

In Math+ Yellow, the teacher-graded activities can be found in the following units:

  • Unit 4: Problems Involving Fractions
  • Unit 6: Decimals
  • Unit 9: Coordinate Planes
If you are in another math course, check your plan for teacher-graded Extended Problems.

When you get  to the end of a unit, you will see instructions that say...

Your Learning Coach will need the Math + Lesson Guide
to complete this lesson. You can access the Lesson Guide Online.

To find the actual Lesson Guide and assignment on the OLS, follow these steps:
  1. Click on the lesson
  2. Click on the Math+ Lesson Guide. This opens the Online Book Menu tab (tiny)
  3. Click the Online Book Menu tab.
  4. Click the Resources tab to find the printable pages.

...and here's a video explaining how to find the assignment
for those visual learners out there (like me!).

Math Help: Partial Products

Many students are having a hard time with Unit 1: Partial Products. I found this helpful video that might demystify it for you!

Keep those math questions coming! When you need help with a concept, others probably do too. If you let me know, I can find resources and post them here.

You may also find this site handy as you travel through math this year. Concepts are explained in a simple way, and many explanations are interactive.

Thanks!

Welcome Bloggers!

Hey there now! If you found this blog, I bet you are in my class this year! To find out more about me or to read about our exciting class program, check out our class website.

This year, we will use this blog as a fun way to communicate with one another. As you may already know, weekly communication between teacher and student is very important. A blog is an easy way to keep in touch while learning about your virtual classmates!

Each week, I will publish a new post on this blog. Posts may include an activity, a question, a sample of student work, or another school-related idea. Sometime during the week, please leave a comment using your first name only. It will be fun to see what other students have written as well!

Kids who comment will be entered into a lollipop drawing. If I pull your name out of my hat, I'll send you a lollipop in the mail!

Are you ready to join the blogging world? Feel free to leave a comment below (click here for help). Then stay tuned for our first official post next week!
