FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE can be found in literature and poetry. 

Figurative language can give words specific meaning that may be different than the literal definition.

Adding figurative language to your writing is a piece of cake. You are experts at finding metaphors, similes alliteration, personification, hyperbole, and onomatopoeia! 

Now, we are going to learn about IDIOMS.

and to look for when you are reading.

Let's Write a Narrative

Think of interesting characters, 

a setting for your story,

How will the problem be solved? 

      

An engaging narrative includes thoughts, feelings, details, description, and dialog.

These things will bring your story to life for the reader!

Figurative language can be found in literature and poetry.  Writers use figurative language to make their work more interesting or more dramatic than literal language which simply states facts.

So far, this year we have learned about 5 types of figurative language:

metaphor

simile

onomatopoeia

alliteration

and today...

PERSONIFICATION!
