Rat-ology 101

Today in our Rats of NIMH Book Club, we learned a thing or two about rats...

  • Rats are omnivores who eat pretty much anything - grains, nuts, vegetables, fruit, eggs and any kind of meat or fish.

  • A rat’s front teeth grow 4½ to 5½ inches each year. Rats wear them down by continuously chewing on things like bricks, wood, lead pipes, and other small animals.
  •  A rat can tread water for three days and survive being flushed down the toilet. He'll come back up the same way he went down!
  •  Rats don't sweat. Their tails regulate their body temperature.

    • Rats are very smart. Maybe not creating-plans-installing-electrical-outlets-harvesting-crops-smart like the Rats of NIMH, but pretty dang smart.  Check out the video below...

    Awww...
Untying a shoelace? Playing fetch? It looks like Buddy and Mikey have their work cut out for them!

What are your feelings or thoughts about the "Amazing Rat Tricks" movie or rats in general?

Our next Book Club assignment is to read chapters 11-13, complete the study guide, and be prepared to share next Wednesday in Class Connect.
