Let's Talk about Theme

In class this week, we are learning about THEME.






The theme cannot always be found in writing. 
You'll need to use your inferencing skills to discover what the author wants you to know.



Here are a few examples of common themes found in literature:

Think about the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  
Then ask yourself the questions below. 


From your answers, can you come up with a theme or two? 
What does the author want you to take away from the story?

Now that we are finished with Pippi Longstocking, we can apply our new knowledge about theme to what we know about the story. What do you think Astrid Lindgren wants you to learn from the story? What is the theme, or heart of the story?

In Class Connect today, students worked in groups to discuss Pippi and come up with themes from the story. Here are a few of the themes we decided on...
